Human–LLM Collaboration on Resume Refinement: Clarifying Contact, Location, and Availability Information

Contact information has a practical function: an employer needs reliable ways to reach the candidate and enough location information to understand the application context.

For experienced professionals, this can involve more than checking an email address and phone number. A candidate may be applying across cities, regions, or countries; planning relocation; pursuing remote or hybrid positions; maintaining several professional contact channels; or applying from a location that could create questions about availability.

These circumstances make clarity and factual reliability the main refinement priorities.

Human–LLM collaboration can help because an LLM can examine the contact area from several reader perspectives, detect ambiguous location signals, compare alternative presentations, and verify a revised version against explicit decisions. The candidate supplies and verifies the underlying facts, determines what personal information to disclose, and decides how their actual mobility and availability should be represented.

The LLM task instructions below are instructions for a model to comprehend and execute. They can be adapted with the complete resume, target job, application location, relocation plans, remote-work preferences, international application context, and previous refinement decisions.

1.Evaluate What an Employer Can Understand from the Current Contact Information

The first evaluation should focus on the information currently presented and the conclusions a reader could reasonably draw from it.

The LLM can examine whether the candidate is easy to contact, whether location is understandable, whether the information creates unanswered questions, and whether every included item has a useful purpose.

LLM evaluation instruction

Evaluate the contact-information area of my resume in the context of the target job and application circumstances I provide. Examine email, phone, location, relocation or availability information, ordering, formatting, and any other contact details. Identify information that is clear, information that may create ambiguity, unnecessary personal information, possible omissions, and inconsistencies with the rest of the application. Explain the reason for every issue you identify. Do not rewrite the section yet.

The analysis can be made more specific when the application involves geographic complexity:

I currently live in [location] and am applying for a position in [target location]. My actual relocation and work-location circumstances are [facts]. Analyze how a recruiter could interpret the location information currently shown on my resume. Identify reasonable ambiguities concerning relocation, geographic availability, or contactability.

For an international application:

Review my contact information for an international application to [target market]. Examine whether the phone format, geographic information, and availability wording can be understood easily by an employer in that market. Identify anything that requires factual confirmation from me before recommending changes.

This first round should produce a short diagnostic report. Contact information rarely needs extensive conceptual analysis.
